Abstract
ABSTRACT Maulia, Fitria Sholichati.2021.”Using of crossword puzzle games in teaching vocabulary in online class (A descriptive study to the seventh grade students of junior high school diponegoro Kedung Banteng,Academic Year 2020/2021).Thesis. Supervisor 1 : Slamet Riyadi, S.S., M.Pd., Supervisor 2 : Novita Pri andini, S.Pd., M.Pd., Examiner : Dian Adiarti, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ministry of Culture and Education, Jenderal Soedirman University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Language Education, English Education Study Program, Purwokerto. The background of the research was many teachers taught vocabulary in SMP Kedung Banteng to the students in monotonous way. The students just memorize the change of verb, nouns, adjectives and adverbs. Therefore the researcher proposed Scrabble games as an instructional media in teaching vocabulary. The research aims to find out (1) How is crossword puzzle games implemented to teach vocabulary in the seventh grade of SMP Diponegoro Kedung Banteng (2) The students’ responses on the use of crossword puzzle games in teaching vocabulary in seventh grade at SMP Diponegoro Kedung Banteng. The method of research was descriptive qualitative. Data were obtained through observation, interview and questionnaire. The data from those techniques were written in the form of detail description. Setting of the research in SMP Diponegoro Kedung Banteng. The sample research consist of 26 students. In analyzing the data, the researcher selected and displayed the data related to the research objectives. The data were presented through descriptive explanation. The result of this research were (1) crossword puzzle games as a media in teaching vocabulary was successfully implemented by the teacher. (2) students were interested to use crossword puzzle games as a media in learning vocabulary, and found that it helped them to increase their vocabularies, spelling and ability to make sentences by using the word they have mentioned. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that scrabble games was successfully implemented and it helped the students in many aspects in mastering vocabulary and spelling. Furthermore, they are interested in teaching and learning vocabulary by using crossword puzzle games. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh banyaknya guru yang mengajarkan kosakata di SMP Kedung Banteng kepada siswanya secara monoton. Siswa hanya menghafalkan perubahan kata kerja, kata benda, kata sifat dan kata keterangan. Oleh karena itu peneliti mengusulkan permainan Scrabble sebagai media pembelajaran dalam pengajaran kosakata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) Bagaimana penerapan permainan teka-teki silang dalam pembelajaran kosakata di kelas VII SMP Diponegoro Kedung Banteng (2) Respon siswa terhadap penggunaan permainan teka-teki silang dalam pembelajaran kosakata di kelas VII SMP Diponegoro Kedung Banteng. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara dan angket. Data dari teknik-teknik tersebut ditulis dalam bentuk deskripsi detail. Setting penelitian di SMP Diponegoro Kedung Banteng. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 26 siswa. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti memilih dan menampilkan data yang berkaitan dengan tujuan penelitian. Data disajikan melalui penjelasan deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) permainan teka-teki silang sebagai media pembelajaran kosakata berhasil diterapkan oleh guru. (2) siswa tertarik untuk menggunakan permainan teka-teki silang sebagai media dalam belajar kosakata, dan menemukan bahwa itu membantu mereka untuk meningkatkan kosakata mereka, ejaan dan kemampuan untuk membuat kalimat dengan menggunakan kata yang mereka sebutkan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa permainan scrabble berhasil diterapkan dan membantu siswa dalam banyak aspek dalam menguasai kosakata dan ejaan. Selanjutnya, mereka tertarik untuk belajar dan mengajar kosa kata dengan menggunakan permainan teka-teki silang.
