Abstract

Plantation land in Kedungrandu Village covering an area of 53 hectares since 2019 covering an area of 8 hectares is cultivated fragrant lemongrass plants and the rest is still empty, currently being prepared for planting expansion of 14 hectares. The land is a plantation land owned by the Correctional Center (Bapas) class II Purwokerto, General Soedirman University and the Banyumas Regency Regional Government which is managed and cooperated by fragrant lemongrass farmers with PT Dewara Nusa Jaya. In the first year fragrant lemongrass has been harvested three times from the same land in the second year and so on can be harvested four times from the same land. The existence of land potential, farming experience, distilled houses, production facilities are the motivation of farmers to continue to expand their fragrant lemongrass land, therefore there is a need for a livelihood strategy to develop fragrant lemongrass plants so that the sustainability of life can be fulfilled with existing livelihood capital. This study aims to find out the level of farmer motivation (economic motivation and sociological motivation), the level of farmer motivation factors (economic motivation and sociological motivation), the relationship between motivational factors with farmers' motivations (economic motivation and sociological motivation) and knowthe sustainable livelihood strategies of asset-based communities in the cultivation of fragrant lemongrass crops in Kedungrandu Village, Patikraja District. The research was conducted in January 2022 in Kedungrandu Village, Patikraja District, Banyumas Regency. Research targets of fragrant lemongrass farmers in Kedungrandu Village, Patikraja District, Banyumas Regency. The selection of research locations is carried out purposively, the basic method used in this study is descriptive methods of analysis. The data collection method uses the census method by interviewing all 40 fragrant lemongrass farmers and then analyzing using the likert scale and rank spearman correlation. The results showed that the economic motivation level of fragrant lemongrass farmers was at a moderate category of 57.5% and the level of sociological motivation of fragrant lemongrass farmers was at a high level of 66.0%, while the result of spearman rank correlation with factors related to farmer motivation there was a significant relationship between land area and income with economic motivation and there was a strong relationship. significant between land area, farmer income, means of production and availability of capital with sociological motivation. The livelihood strategy implemented by most of their farmers depends on agricultural activities (47.5%), some depend on livestock, fisheries, services, trade and employee activities or diversification (27.5%) and a small percentage (25%) depend on migration activities. The value of the level of livelihood capital of fragrant lemongrass farmers in Kedungrandu Village, namely human capital, natural capital, physical capital, financial capital, social capital is classified as a moderate level of sustainability. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve the quality of livelihood capital of fragrant lemongrass farmers to the maximum at a high level of sustainability.
