Abstract

One of the strategies undertaken by the government to accelerate economic development is through industrialization. The role of the industry sector as a leading sector is expected to provide employment so that it can absorb the optimal labor absorption. Large and medium industry is an industry that has labor more than 20 persons. Central Java is the province with fourth largest GRDP value in Indonesia with the biggest contribution of GRDP is industrial sector. But, the employment is still dominated by agricultural sector. This proves unoptimal role of industry especially demand for labor at large and medium industry in Central Java. The macroeconomic variables in this research are the number of business unit, regency / municipality minimum wage, inflation, and investment as independent variable. Those variables used to analyze its effect on demand fro labor at large and medium industry. This research is using quantitative data method and using panel data regression as the analysis technique. The results showed that the best model used in this research is fixed effect model. The number of business unit and investment as independent variable has positive and significant effect on demand for labor at large and medium industry. Regency / municipality minimum wage has positive and not significant effect on demand for labor at large and medium industry. meanwhile inflation has no significant effect on demand for labor at large and medium industry. and the most influential variable on demand for labor at large and medium industry is the number of business unit.
