Abstract

Household energy consumption always increases from year to year driven by an increase in the needs and consumption of household energy such as gas, electricity, and fuel. However, the energy has a limited availability so people must use it appropriately. The purpose of this study was to analyze the energy consumption of modern households in North Purwokerto, which is one of the densely populated areas in Banyumas Regency. The independent variables used in this study included income, education, number of family members, and length of time at home. This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach by using the primary data collection method through interviews based on a research questionnaire that contains data used in the study. The population in this study was households in RW 2 sumampir village as many as 2,093 people. The determination of the sample was carried out using the multistage cluster sampling method so that 100 respondents were obtained. The results of this study show that the number of family members and the length of time at home have a partial effect on modern household energy consumption in North Purwokerto, in addition to the number of family members and the length of time at home together - the same as income and education have a simultaneous effect on modern household energy consumption in North Purwokerto. Income and education have no significant effect on modern household energy consumption in North Purwokerto. The implication in this study is that people must be wiser in using energy. Turn off electronics that are not in use, and use public transportation vehicles to save people's modern energy expenditures. In addition, the importance of productive activities while at home in order to provide more benefits from the use of modern household energy consumption.
