Abstract

Stock is one form of investment that the public can choose in investing their funds. In investing in stocks, the expectation that investors want is to get a return Return is result obtained from investment. (Hartono, 2015). Returns can be in the form of realized returns that have occurred or expected returns that have not yet occurred but are expected to occur in the future. Factors that affect returns are identical to factors that affect stock prices and can be divided into internal and external factors (Weston and Brigham, 1993). Economic conditions are one of the factors that can determine the stock returns that investors will get. Economic conditions that are stable and tend to grow will be seen as a signal by investors that the stock returns that will be obtained tend to be high. On the other hand, changing and unstable economic conditions will also affect the stock returns that investors will get. One of these economic conditions can be measured through the inflation rate. Inflation is the most important macroeconomic variable. This study aims to demonstrate the variables affecting stock return based on phenomenon, theory, and research development. Therefore, this study examines how the dependent variables of stock return in sub sector transportation listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange might be affected by return on asset, return on equity, inflation as moderating variable and size as variable control for the years 2019-2021. The result show several conclusions. Return On Asset has a positive influence on Stock Return. Therefore, the first hypothesis is accepted. Return On Equity hasn’t influence on Stock Return. Therefore, the second hypothesis is rejected. Inflation doesn’t Moderate the effect of ROA & ROE on Stock Return. Therefore, the third and fourth hypothesis is Rejected. The main implication of the present study has been encountered in two ways. First one is that it helps to understand the Efficient Market Hypothesis & Signalling Theory of management students. The second one is provide for stakeholder who want to know about effect of financial performance to stock return in making decision.
