Abstract

Supervisor 1: Ika Maratus Sholikhah, S.S., M.A., Supervisor 2: Tri Wahyu Setiawan P., S.S., M.Hum., External Examiner: Dr. Chusni Hadiati, S.S., M.Hum. Disfluency, Ellen Show. This research entitled An Analysis of Speech Disfluency on the Ellen Show. This research aims to analyze the type of speech disfluency and to describe the factors of speech disfluency in the Ellen Show video. The theories applied in conducting this research are types of speech disfluency by Clark & Clark (1977) and causes of speech disfluency based on Bartfeld’s (2001) theory. The research is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are 95 speech disfluency uttered by Ellen as the host and Kendall Jenner as the guest star. The result of this research for the types of speech disfluency are 30 (31,25%) Repeat, 23 (23,95%) Interjection, 12 (12,5%) Filled pause, 10 (10,41%) Retraced False Start, 8 (8,33%) Unretraced False Start, 8 (8,33%) Correction, 3 (3,12%) Silent Pause, and 2 (2,08%) Stutter. Furthermore, the result of factors cause speech disfluency are 65 (67,7%) Processing Load, 17 (17,7%) Coordination Function, 8 (8,3%) Familiar versus Unfamiliar Conversational Partners, 4 (4,2%) the Effect Upon Disfluency, and 2 (2,1%) Age. Those data shows that Ellen and Kendall Jenner have difficulty in planning their speech. It is because some of the reasons that they do spontanoues speech in the talk show.
