Abstract

Indonesia with the 4th largest population in the world and the largest area in ASEAN in 2020 still holds the status as developing country. Even after 75 years of Indonesia’s independence, there are still many economic problems that the government has not been able to resolve. The difficulty commonly faced by developing countries is maintaining economic stability, one of which is inflation. For twenty years starting from 2001 – 2020, Indonesia's inflation rate has experienced fluctuations. Therefore, researchers are interested in examining the Factors Affecting Inflation in Indonesia during the period 2001 – 2020. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of interest rates, exchange rates, and fuel prices on the inflation rate. This study uses secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Bank Indonesia, the World Bank, and Pertamina. The analytical technique used in this study uses autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL). The results of this study indicate that the interest rate variable has a positive and significant effect on the short and long run, the exchange rate variable has a positive and insignificant effect on the short run but is negative on the long run, and the fuel price variable has a positive and significant effect on the short run but insignificant on the long run on the inflation rate. The implication of this research is to maintain economic stability, in this case inflation is a complex problem and cannot be solved only from one aspect. The government is expected to assist in other aspects, such as making regulations through Bank Indonesia regarding interest rates and through Pertamina regarding fuel prices so the inflation rate can be controlled properly by the government in the future.
