Abstract
Background: Stunting refers to impaired development and growth that experienced by children from inadequate psychosocial stimulation, poor nutrition, and reoccuring infections. One of the main factors leading to stunting in children is family support. This research aimed to analyze the influence of family support on mother with the incidence of stunting. Methods: This research was an observational-analytic quantitative method with a case-control design and with a retrospective approach. The sampling technique that carried out was purposive sampling of 62 mothers who had stunting children and 62 mothers who had normal children. Results: Statistical analysis test using Chi Square found that there was a significant influence between family support on mother with the incidence of stunting (p-value=0.00) with moderate category of closeness (r=0.38). Mothers who received low family support were 2.67 times more at risk to have stunting children than mothers who received moderate family support. Mothers who received low family support were 17,6 times more at risk to have stunting children than mothers who received high family support (OR1=2.67; OR2=17.60). Conclusions: There was a significant influence of family support on mother with the incidence of stunting. Providing education about the importance of family support on mother from pregnancy until the child is 2 years old is highly recommended to reduce stunting incidence.
