Abstract
Penelitian ini membahas tentang bagaimana sebuah serial film Netflix yang berjudul Sex Education Musim Pertama dan kaitannya dengan kritik sosial di tiap adegannya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui penggambaran kritik sosial dalam serial Netflix Sex Education musim pertama. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian kali ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan menggunakan model penelitian semiotika dan paradigma teori kritis. Objek penelitian ini adalah adegan di serial Netflix Sex Education Musim Pertama. Jenis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data primer berupa serial Netflix Sex Education Musim Pertama dan data sekunder berupa buku-buku dan jurnal- jurnal yang bisa dijadikan sebagai referensi penelitian semiotika. Teknik yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan datanya adalah studi analitis teks dan studi kepustakaan. Teks yang dipilih adalah masing-masing tiga episode dari delapan episode. Metode analisis datanya menggunakan metode semiotika Roland Barthes. Pengembangan validitas data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik sembilan formula. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa Serial Netflix Sex Education Musim Pertama merupakan salah satu teks dengan tanda dalam komunikasi dan juga mengandung kritik sosial di dalamnya. Beberapa kritik sosial antara lain perihal perundungan yang ada di sekolah, diskriminasi ras, kekerasan gender, masalah seksual di kalangan remaja, kenakalan remaja, dan konflik antara remaja dengan orang tua. Kata Kunci: Kritik Sosial, Semiotika, Serial Netflix Sex Education This research discusses how a Netflix film series entitled Sex Education Season One and its relation to social criticism in each scene. The purpose of this study is to find out the depiction of social criticism in the first season of the Netflix series Sex Education. The research method used in this research is a qualitative method using a semiotic research model and a critical theory paradigm. The object of this research is a scene in the Netflix series Sex Education Season One. The type of data used in this research is primary data in the form of the Netflix series Sex Education Season One and secondary data in the form of books and journals that can be used as a reference for semiotics research. The technique used for data collection is text analytical study and literature study. The selected subtitles are each of three of the eight episodes. The data analysis method uses Roland Barthes' semiotic method. The development of data validity in this study is a technique of nine formulas. The results of the study explain that the Netflix Series Sex Education Season One is one of the texts with signs in communication and also contains social criticism in it. Some of the social criticisms include bullying in schools, racial discrimination, gender violence, sexual problems among adolescents, juvenile delinquency, and conflicts between adolescents and their parents.
