Abstract
Agriculture is a sector that contributes significantly to the Indonesian economy. The agricultural sector employs the majority of the population, especially in rural areas. In Kaliwader Village, Bener District, Purworejo Regency, most of the inhabitants work as farmers. One of the agricultural crops cultivated by the farmers in Kaliwader Village is elephant foot yam. Elephant Foot Yam in Kaliwader Village has superior quality, as evidenced by its high glucomannan content. The aims of research is to analyze profit and development strategy elephant foot yam farming in Purworejo Regency. This research utilizes primary data through interview-based questionnaires. The population of this study consists of elephant foot yam farmers in Kaliwader Village, Bener District, Purworejo Regency, who are members of the village farming group, totaling 185 farmers. The sample for this study was determined using the Taro Yamane formula, considering the identified population size. A total of 65 farmers were selected as the sample for this research. The analytical tools used include income analysis to determine the average income of farmers and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) analysis to formulate elephant foot yam farming development strategies. The results of research and data analysis based on profit and SWOT analysis show that: (1) the average profit of elephant foot yam farming in Kaliwader Village is 12,782,674 IDR per harvest cycle (every six months), and (2) the strategy that can be implemented for the development of elephant foot yam farming in Kaliwader Village is S-O strategy. The implications of this research are as follows: (1) Elephant foot yam farming in Kaliwader Village can be continued as it provides profits to the farmers. (2) Enhancing the quality of human resources through training is essential, and to support the development of elephant foot yam farming, farmers need to maximize the S-O (Strengths-Opportunities) strategy by leveraging existing strengths and opportunities.
