Abstract

Remittances have become a new financial phenomenon and are one of the most important sources of funds and have an impact on the world economy. Remittances are a source of foreign exchange for the country. This is due to the influx of funds from migrant workers who send funds to their countries of origin which will later affect the growth of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Therefore, researchers are interested in examining the effect of the number of TKI and GDP on remittances in Indonesia in 2007-2022. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the number of TKI and GDP on remittances in Indonesia and to find out the most influential variables. This study uses secondary data obtained from BP2MI, the World Bank, and Bank Indonesia. The analysis technique used in this study uses multiple linear regression and time series data. The results of this study indicate that the variable number of migrant workers has a positive and significant effect on remittances in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the GDP variable has no effect on remittances in Indonesia. The most influential variable is the number of TKI. The implication of this research is that the government should pay more attention to and increase the number of migrant workers. Governments can provide education and training programs that prepare prospective migrant workers with the skills needed in the global job market. And the government must also ensure the protection and guarantee of the rights of migrant workers while working abroad.
