Abstract

This research entitled Anthropocentrism in Burton’s Dumbo (2019) aims to analyze the anthropocentric characters in the movie. This research used a qualitative method to analyze the data. The primary data of this research was the movie Dumbo (2019) directed by Burton. This research uses the ecocriticism theory as the main theory for the analysis. Additionally, anthropocentrism and cinematography theories are both used to support the analysis. The result of this research shows that out of six characters discussed, four of them show weak anthropocentric traits. The Farrier siblings start as weak anthropocentric characters, meanwhile the other two, Holt Farrier and Max Medici change and tend to become weak anthropocentric characters after being influenced by their environment. The other two characters out of six, Rufus Sorghum and V.A. Vandevere, shows strong anthropocentric traits. These characters do not change and degrade in quality and ruin themselves in the end.
