Abstract
Pangestika, Okke Rizka. 2017. A Psycholinguistic Analysis of Verbal Language Problem of an Individual with Asperger Syndrome in Comedy Movie The Story of Luke. Supervisors: Tuti Purwati, S.S., M.Pd., and Erna Wardani, S.Pd., M.Hum. External Examiner: Ika Maratus Sholikhah, S.S., M.A. English Study Program. Faculty of Humanities. English Department. Jenderal Soedirman University. Purwokerto. The research is aimed at identifying verbal language problems of an individual with Asperger Syndrome produced by the main character in “The Story of Luke”. This research was conducted in descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are all the utterances produced by the main character named Luke and categorized according to the theory used in this research, from Attwood. The researcher has several steps in analyzing the data of the research. Firstly, the researcher classified the data into the types of verbal language problem. Secondly, analyzed the verbal language problem data and the way the main character communicate with proposed theory. Finally, the researcher presented the conclusion and suggestion. After analyzing the data, the researcher found 31 data which are included in the types of verbal language problem experienced by the character with Asperger Syndrome in comedy movie The Story of Luke. The result shows that are 12 data of lack of pragmatics, 6 data of literal interpretation, 2 data of odd prosody, 2 data of pedantic language, 6 data of sounding the mind, 1 datum auditory of discrimination and distortion, 2 data of verbal fluency. However, the researcher did not find any data which related with idiosyncratic use of words. Pangestika, Okke Rizka. 2017.
