Abstract

Background: The agriculture and plantation sector is ranked fourth as highest number of work accident victims, for example is coconut tree climbers. Work accidents are emergencies that need to be handled quickly, precisely, and carefully to minimize disability and death (time-saving is life-saving) through actions called first aid. The involvement of the layperson in providing first aid for work accidents is very important because the health workers is not always be around. Knowledge is necessary for someone in providing first aid because a lack of knowledge can make a person hesitate in providing first aid. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude about first aid for coconut tree fall victims in Pageraji village. Methodology: The research model used is analytical quantitative approach. The number of respondents in this study was 402 using quota sampling technique. The data were processed using univariate and bivariate analysis. The bivariate analysis using somers’d. Research Results: The result shows that 181 respondents (45.0%) have good knowledge about first aid for victims of falls from coconut trees. Almost all respondents, 393 respondents (97.8%) had a first-aid attitude that was in the positive category. Most respondents had good first-aid knowledge and a positive attitude, as much as 176 respondents (43.8%). However, statistical results using somers’d show that there is no significant relationship between first aid knowledge and attitudes (p=0.566) and the strength of the correlation is very weak and the direction of the correlation being negative (-0,007). Conclusion: Knowledge and attitudes of first aid for victims who fell from coconut trees in Pageraji village did not have a significant relationship.
