Abstract

Phonetics and phonological change possibly happen when a native speaker of a language speaks another language mainly when it is spoken as a foreign language. It also occurs on Korean people when they speak in English. This research observed the phonetics and phonological change or sound change type and impact when an English word is produced by Korean. The data that the researchers use for this research is from one of SF9’s YouTube channel programs called Inseong O’Clock. However, this research focus is on the words-final t letter produced by Inseong Kim. Furthermore, the data will be analyzed by using the qualitative observation method where the researchers observe the video, write down the words that end with t letter, and analyze the sound change type. Based on the research on 67 words listed, there are six out of seven types appeared in the data. It starts with assimilation, dissimilation, epenthesis, elition, fortition, and lenition with the most occurrences. Besides, these sound changes are affecting the length duration of some words due to their transformation such as deletion, insertion, and additional aspiration in the voiceless consonants. In conclusion, several types of sound changes happen when a Korean produces an English word and it also affects the length of duration.
