Abstract

Background: Indonesia has disaster-prone geographical conditions because it is located on the Pacific and Mediterranean mountain ranges and on the equator, which affects the climate with rainy and dry seasons. Universities play an important role in disaster management through the Tridarma of education, research, and community service. Disaster education in higher education aims to create a disaster-prepared campus, which is a campus that is able to manage disaster risks by involving students. This study aims to assess the level of disaster mitigation knowledge and preparedness among students of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman located in Banyumas, Central Java, an area vulnerable to natural disasters due to the presence of active volcanoes, particularly Mount Slamet. Methodology: This research design is quantitative with a cross sectional research design with a population of 25,798 people. Sampling using stratified random sampling with 438 research respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire using a guttman scale and univariate analysis. Research Results: The results of the characteristics of respondents obtained the majority of respondents were female 70.3%, the average age of respondents was 45.9% in the age range of 17-19 years and 54.1% in the age range of 20-22 years, the most education generation from the 2024 generation 35.2%. The majority of respondents had knowledge in the moderate category 56.6% and preparedness in the good category 27.6%. Conclusion: The level of knowledge about disaster mitigation in students of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman is in the moderate category, while the level of preparedness is in the good category. preparedness.
