Abstract

Politeness can be defined as a type of communicative conduct seen in many human languages and cultures. Politeness can sometimes be violated, which happens in talk shows such as podcasts, where since 2020, podcast shows have increased and become popular nowadays. This research aims to analyze the violation of Leech’s politeness maxims on the podcast entitled “NAS DAILY, SAYA DI TOLAK MASUK INDONESIA!? DENGAR SAYA!! Nuseir Yassin – Deddy Corbuzier Podcast”, and its intended meaning and speech act classifications. This research uses a qualitative method to analyze the data, which includes all the utterances by the podcast host, Deddy Corbuzier, and the guest, Nuseir Yassin (Nas Daily). The data was collected using the purposive sampling method, which started with downloading the podcast videos, transcribing, and analyzing the data containing violations of the maxims of politeness. The results found that there are 19 data containing violations of Leech's politeness maxim, including Tact maxim (21%), Generosity maxim (11%), Approbation maxim (21%), Agreement maxim (32%), Modesty maxim (5%), and Sympathy maxim (10%), with the highest frequency of violation is agreement maxim, Based on the result, it can be concluded that the high frequency of violation of the agreement maxim is due to the desire to give opinions and refute each other's opinions. Secondly, this study also found that from the 19 data, based on speech act classifications, it can be classified as Representative (63%), Expressive (26%), and Directive (11%). The utterances that contain violations of the agreement maxim are all based on what Deddy and Nuseir believe, the knowledge they have, and the experiences they have, based on this, it can be concluded that the representative has the highest frequency.
