Abstract

Background: Spinal injuries are one of the serious consequences that may result from accidents, including motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, or workplace accidents. The incidence of spinal injuries has significantly increased each year, making it a pressing public health issue. Prompt, accurate, and professional management is crucial for saving patients' lives. This innovation involves the development of a prototype aimed at accelerating and improving the management of spinal injury patients by utilizing a head stabilizer and neck collar without relying on a long spine board. The objective of this study is to address the issue of limited head stabilizer application without using a long spine board. Methods: This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design with a prototype approach. The research phases included designing the tool, creating Prototype 1, conducting expert evaluations, developing Prototype 2, performing usability testing, and producing Prototype 3. Results: The final prototype was developed in the third phase. The process involved creating Prototype 1, conducting expert evaluations that provided feedback on the base material and component adjustments, and achieving a CVI score of 1. Prototype 2 was subsequently developed and subjected to usability testing by users, which resulted in suggestions to add foam to minimize additional injuries, reinforce the material with a sturdy frame, and enhance the product's appearance with appealing colors. Prototype 3 was then designed based on expert and user feedback, featuring specifications such as the use of acrylic material reinforced with strong supports and foam padding to reduce friction or other injuries to patients. Conclusion: The innovation in emergency care, which combines a head stabilizer and neck collar, has been validated through expert assessments and user feedback. This "Tombilizer" prototype represents a solution to the common challenge of applying a head stabilizer without a long spine board in emergency situations.
