Abstract

This research is an empirical study on external financial support effect toward economic growth of Indonesia period of 2005-2014. The importance of external income resources for developing countries are important, in order to support their development process. The aims of this research were to examine the influence of foreign direct investment inflows, total exports, and Indonesia external debt on economic growth of Indonesia. This research used the economic growth theory, international trade theory, and two gap theory. This reseach used associative method with quantitative approach. The analysis is examined by using multiple linear regression estimation and autroreggresion distributed lag for FDI and external debt variable. Hypothesis are tested using partial test, joined test (F test) and adjusted R2. Trends and forecasting are examined by using linear trend model. The result of this research indicates that: (1) FDI inflows have a negative effect on economic growth of Indonesia, meanwhile total exports and external debt have a positive effect on economic growth; (2) FDI inflows is the most influencing variable on economic growth of Indonesia; (3) Trend pattern of FDI inflows, total exports and external debt in Indonesia show increasing every years, both in the study period and 10 years later predicted. As implications the effort to increase the economic growth, the government should more pay attention on increasing total exports and external debt as the additional capital on supporting the development process. To increase the total exports it could be conducted by supporting the exporters in order to improve their productivity in various sector, giving quality control, provides training programmes, and provides consultacy. The increase of external debt must be followed by economic development. Beside the FDI inflows has a negative effect on economic growth, so the government must be selective on choosing the FDI inflows in order to support the realization on economic development target.
