Abstract

Background: The elderly population in Indonesia continues to grow, but this growth has not been matched by improvements in their quality of life, leading to problems such as post-power syndrome. Family affective functioning is crucial in overcoming this challenge. This study aims to explore the relationship between family affective functioning and post-performance syndrome in the elderly. Methodology: The study used a quantitative cross-sectional design with total sampling, selecting 79 elderly participants aged ≥60 years living with their families who consented to participate. Data were collected from December 2024 to January 2025 using two questionnaires: Post-power syndrome and family affective function. Analysis was performed using Somer's D test. Resulth: Data normality test on age with Kolmogorov-Smirnov showed p = 0.018 (p < 0.05). This study showed that most of the respondents experienced moderate post-power syndrome, with no significant relationship between family affective function and post-power syndrome (p = -0.139, p < 0.05), showing only a weak correlation (r = 0.285). Although family affective function has an influence, factors such as family support, health care, and economic function play a greater role in post-power syndrome in the elderly. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between family affective function and the occurence of post power syndrome in the elderly. Respondents strengthen relationships with family and social environment to reduce the risk of post power syndrome. Participating in social activities, maintaining good communication with family, and staying active in meaningful activities can help maintain psychological well-being.
