Abstract

This study examines the effect of lifestyle, social environment, financial literacy, and intellectual intelligence on financial management (study of accounting students in Purwokerto). Using a quantitative method and PLS-SEM analysis with SmartPLS, this research collected data from 308 accounting students through a Likert scale-based questionnaire. The results indicate that: (1) Lifestyle has a positive and significant effect on financial management. (2) Social environment has a positive and significant effect on financial management. (3) Financial literacy has a positive and significant effect on financial management. (4) Intellectual intelligence has a significant negative effect on financial management. These findings suggest that students with a highly consumptive lifestyle tend to struggle with financial management, whereas a supportive social environment and high financial literacy levels help improve their financial management skills. However, students with high intellectual intelligence are more prone to overconfidence, which can lead to suboptimal financial management. The implications of this study highlight the importance of financial literacy education in higher education and the need for a practical approach to fostering healthy financial habits among students. The study's limitations include the exclusion of family financial conditions, limited geographical coverage, and potential bias in self-reported data. Thus, this research provides new insights into the factors influencing students' financial management while opening opportunities for future studies to deepen the analysis by considering additional influencing factors.
