Abstract
Banana has a strategic role for farmers in Purbalingga Regency, especially in increasing family income. Bananas are not affected by the season and can produce throughout the year. Low productivity is technically affected by various factors, including production, climate, cultivation method and capital limitation or income of farmers. This research aims to analyze the importance of market structure and marketing system of banana in Purbalingga Regency, and the level of economic efficiency in banana farming in Purbalingga Regency. Research technique used in this research is survey method, in Purbalingga Regency. The population in this research on the all existing population consisting in Purbalingga Regency of 30 respondents. The research technique used in this research is survey method, the research takes sample from a population by using questionnaire as a tool to collect data. Based on the calculation the average total revenue of banana farming is Rp 8,119,833.33, while the average total cost incurred by banana farmers is Rp 5,562,983.00. Based on these values, it is obtained the average value of R/C ratio of 1.46, meaning that every one rupiah incurred will obtain a value of Rp 1.46. Because the value of R/C is more than one, then it can be concluded that banana farming in Purbalingga Regency has been efficient. Thus the hypothesis that banana farming in Purbalingga Regency has not been efficient is rejected. Based on the analysis farmer’s share of marketing channel I is 37.50 percent lower than that of marketing channel II of 45.00 percent. This indicates that the more marketing agencies involved in the marketing of banana in Purbalingga Regency, the smaller the farmer’s share. Conversely, the fewer the marketing agencies involved in the marketing of banana, the greater the farmer’s share. Accordinglythe hypothesis that the farmer’s share in Purbalingga Regency is low is accepted.
