Abstract
Potato is an important food commodity in Indonesia and are needed throughout the year besides rice as the main foodstuff. Demand for vegetables including potato in Indonesia continues to increase every year as population increases, income levels and the growth of potato processing industries. Potato are not just vegetable consumption but potato consumption in processed form (chips and French fries) also shows improvement. There is an increase in potato consumption for processed potato, as well as frozen potato for those commonly used for French fries. The type of this study is associative research. The technique of analysis is multiple linear regression. The dependent variable is the import of Indonesian potato. The independent variables are Indonesian potato consumption, Indonesian potato production, per capita income and rupiah exchange rate. The results of this study show that potato consumption and per capita income have a positive and significant effect. Potato production has a negative and significant effect while the exchange rate of rupiah has positive effect is not significant. Implications that can be expressed to improve policies to increase domestic production in order to contribute to GDP, so that the increase in GDP can be used to finance the needs of imports of other goods that can not really be produced in Indonesia. On the other hand, the government should prioritize policies for breeding or producing potato seeds in bulk or reproduced so that farmers can use domestic production seeds compared to imported fresh potato and seeds. Suppressing the number of imported potato demand by encouraging the love of domestic products due to the good taste and quality of domestic potato is not inferior to imported potato.
