Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) on Cross-Cultural Adjustment (CCA) and academic performance in the nationally diverse academic setting. This is an empirical study conducted on international students within Teikyo University, Hachioji Campus, Japan. The study about CQ and CCA has been continuously performed in the context of International Human Resource Management (IHRM) where expatriates’ CQ and CCA can influence their job performance. However, the same study conducted in the context of global education is currently very limited whereas international students are often facing significant challenge to endure the problem of general, social, and academic adjustment in the host country. This study was conducted on September to November 2017 at the Hachioji Campus of Teikyo University, Japan. By using questionnaires as primary data, this study obtained 70 respondents whose characteristics are international students studying in their second semester and above at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus. According to the hypotheses testing, the results of this study are as follow: (1) Cultural Intelligence (CQ) has positive influence towards CrossCultural Adjustment (CCA). (2) CQ has positive influence towards academic performance. (3) CCA has positive influence towards academic performance. (4) CCA mediates the relationship between CQ and academic performance. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is needed by not only international students but also every party involved in global education such as teachers and schools. Therefore, the enhancement of this ability required an understanding and cooperation to persistently build discussion and initiation about cultural diversity that is becoming more necessary in today’s world.
