Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that influence the demand for incense in Gunung Wetan Village, Jatilawang Banyumas. Variables used to analyze incense demand are trustworthiness, price, income, education and number of smokers. This type of research is a mixed method, which is a combination of qualitative research and quantitative research using case studies in the community of Gunung Wetan Village as the object of research. The population of this study is households that adhere to the beliefs of kejawen and non-kejawen in Gunung Wetan Village. Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling was used as a sampling method in this study. This study uses multiple linear regression data analysis techniques. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the belief, price and number of smokers have a significant effect while income and education have no significant effect on the demand for incense in the village of Gunung Wetan. The most influential variable on the incense demand in Gunung Wetan Village is the number of smokers. Based on the conclusions of this study, it can be implied that the belief of kejawen is a heritage of ancestors that must be preserved and the belief of kejawen is part of the institutional economy in which there are socio-cultural elements related to economic activity. The price and also the number of smokers in the household also affect the demand for incense, the policy that must be carried out is when the price is high, namely by applying the highest market price policy. The additional number of smokers in the household can increase the demand for incense so that it can be implied by increasing amount of incense production.
