Abstract

This research is entitled “Effects of Jackson Maine’s Depression in A Star Is Born Movie by Bradley Cooper”. It aims to analyze the effects of depression in Bradley Cooper’s movie A Star Is Born (2018) by using Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theory. This research uses qualitative method. The step for data analysis are by classifying the data, analyzing the data and concluding the data. Furthermore, the discussion of this study is divided into three main parts. The first part is about the depression. Depression on Jackson Maine is in a high stage, that makes him get some consequences. Society that does not help the healing process make him get the big effect of depression (suicide). The second part is about substance use disorder. Alcohol and drugs consumption in high intensity is the major addiction on Jack. The third part is about suicide. Suicidal behavior rise because his depression and feeling guilty. The discussion of this research is using psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud. Then the depression are analyzed by identifying the stages, the healing process and also the habit or act of Jack in making a decision. The effects of depression analysis using id,ego and superego. The result of the research concludes that the big Id inside Jack makes him losse control of himself and got the big effects of depression. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa efek depresi yang dialami Bradley Cooper dalam film A Star Is Born (2018) menggunakan teori psychoanalysis dari Sigmund Freud. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Analisis data dilaksanakan dengan menggolongkan data, menganalisis data, dan menyimpulkan data. Selanjutnya, bagian diskusi dari penelitian ini dibagi menjadi tiga bagian. Bagian pertama membahas mengenai depresi. Depresi yang dialami Jackson Maine berada dalam level yang tinggi, dimana membuat nya memiliki beberapa efek yang besar (bunuh diri). Bagian kedua mengenai gangguan penggunaan zat illegal (kecanduan). Penggunaan alkohol dan narkoba dalam jumlah banyak merupakan kecanduan utama dalam diri Jack. Bagian ketiga mengenai bunuh diri. Perilaku bunuh diri muncul karena depresi yang dimiliki, rasa bersalah dan juga tekanan. Di setiap bagian diskusi dari depresi dan juga efek nya muncul dalam adegan dan konteks cerita dibahas menggunakan teori psychoanalisis. Selanjutnya depresi dianalisis dengan mengidentifikasi tingkatan, proses penyembuhan dan juga kebiasaan atau aksi dari Jack saat membuat keputusan. Selain itu, efek dari depresi dianalisis dengan mengidentifikasi porsi dari id,ego, dan superego dalam diri Jackson Maine. hasil dari analisis ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa Id yang besar dalam diri Jack membuat dia tidak dapat mengontrol dirinya dan membuatnya mendapatkan efek yang besar. Kata Kunci : Psychoanalisis Teori dari Freud, Depresi, Kecanduan, Perilaku Bunuh Diri, A Star Is Born
