Abstract

Bifidobacterium is one of three types of bacterias that has potential as probiotic which clinically used. Bifidobacterium sp. has antibacterial activity against pathogenic microbes. Bifidobacterium sp. is anaerobic bacteria, Gram positive, has no spores, nonmotil, and has rod-shaped. The probiotic cell number can be maintained and viable until arrived in digestive system to provide a physical barrier using spray method and encapsulation method. The benefits of probiotics include preventing diarrhea, as well as providing effects on the immune system. The microflora of the feces illustrates the composition of microorganisms that present in small intestine. The purpose of this research are to know the influence of probiotics Bifidobacterium sp. With spray method and encapsulation method in population of bacteria in feces and differential leucocytes of Balb / c mice and to know the most effective way and duration of giving probiotic Bifidobacterium sp. This research was conducted by experimental method with Completely Randomized Design by Factorial that consist of 2 factors and 3 repeats. Bifidobacterium sp. was cultured for spray method and probiotic encapsulated pelet production. Probiotics were given to mice for 21 days. Number of lactic acid bacteria after treatment of Bifidobacterium sp. in mice had no real effect. In the PCA medium, bacterial diversity in general decreases in number after treatment of Bifidobacterium sp. The population of pathogenic bacterias E.coli and S.typhi decreased every week, but E. coli as normal microflora in digestion was normal. Treatment of Bifidobacterium sp. Gave significant effect on leukocyte differentials especially in increasing lymphocytes, and decreasing numbers of Neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils. While the percentage of monocyte had no significant effect. Encapsulation method and given until the 3rd week were the most effective for result.
