Abstract
Dentin is one of the largest part of dental structure that contains 70% calcium hydroxyapatite. Glass ionomer cement type II is a silicate-based material that have chemical reaction to attached on the dentin surface. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a root canal filling material. MTA can stimulate root canal remineralization. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of shear bond strength of type II GIC with 20% MTA addition on dentin surface. The research type was laboratory experiment with posttest-only group design. This study used 20 samples divided into 2 groups. Group 1 was type II GIC material with 20% MTA addition while group 2 was type II GIC material without 20% MTA addition as a control. The samples in this study were maxillary first premolars which prepared in the buccal area to reach the dentin surface. The restoration procedure was carried out according to treatment in each group and was implanted on acrylic base. Samples were soaked in artificial saliva with a temperature of 37 ° for 14 days. The samples were tested for the shear bond strength using Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The statistical analysis was Independent t-Test. The results showed a significant difference between group 1 and group 2 with p = 0.032 (p <0.05). The conclusion is the shear bond strength of type II GIC with 20% MTA addition was greater than the shear bond strength of GIC type II without 20% MTA addition.
