Abstract

This research entitled “Symbols Japanese Culture in Samurai Awakening Benjamin Martin” aims to figure out the symbols which depicted in samurai awakening. The main data of this research are from Samurai Awakening written by Benjamin martin. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses new criticism to analyze symbols. This research is also supported by myth and Japanese culture. This research also uses descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the main data of this research. The method of analysis in this research is started from reading the novel, finding out symbols in the character in novel, analyzing the data using new criticism on symbol, myth and Japanese culture and concluding the result of analysis. The result of this research shows seven symbols depicted in novel; there are Oni, Ninigi, Golden Tiger, Yurei, Kami, Obake and Okami.
