Abstract
This research is entitled The Power of Cookies in Secret Magic Control Agency (2021): A Semiotic Study. It analyzes the cultural and social representation of cookies in Secret Magic Control Agency (2021) movie using semiotics theory by Saussure. The selected data are cookies and love cookies which symbolize a true meaning in the term of power and obsession. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis of this research is to find out the interpretation of the symbol’s sign, signifier, and signified. To answer research questions and analyze the meaning of the power from the objects, the semiotic theory of Sign by Saussure is applied. The results of the study show that the cookies bear meanings. The cookies in the movie are mixed with Vanilla which can enhance Ilvira’s black magic recipe. The cookies symbolize Ilvira’s power. Besides, Ilvira also made the Love Cookies and various living cookies. The living cookies became Ilvira’s servants. Meanwhile, the Love Cookies is the second object to be interpreted as the symbol of obsession. The use of Love Cookies is to fool The King and people. Ilvira uses the Love Cookies to make them love her.
