Abstract
The Wadaslintang Reservoir is a dam formed by the Bedegolan River, utilized as an area for aquaculture through the use of floating net cages (FNC). If not managed properly, FNC aquaculture can lead to water pollution. This pollution arises from the accumulation of uneaten feed and fish feces at the bottom of the water, causing eutrophication conditions. Eutrophication refers to an increase in nutrients, characterized by excessive growth of plankton species, which can be either beneficial or harmful to the ecosystem. Therefore, the diversity and abundance of plankton play a crucial role in determining the trophic status and fertility of a water body. This study aims to examine the physical and chemical parameters of the water, identify the structure of the plankton community, and assess the level of water pollution in the floating net cages area of the Wadaslintang Reservoir. The research method involves a purposive survey within the FNC area. Water and plankton samples were collected from three stations within the FNC area and one station outside it, with sampling conducted four times at weekly intervals. Observed variables include water quality, plankton community structure, and pollution levels. Measured parameters comprise temperature, light penetration, depth, pH, dissolved oxygen, total nitrogen, total phosphate, species count, individual count, and the saprobic coefficient. The Diversity Index (H') was analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener Index, while the Dominance Index (D) was calculated using Simpson's Index with the help of Past 4.05 software. Plankton abundance was calculated using a Sedgwick Rafter Cell. The physical and chemical parameter measurements were tabulated, compared to Class III water quality standards, and analyzed descriptively. Pollution levels and trophic status were determined using the saprobic coefficient based on plankton community structure and analyzed descriptively. The research results indicate that the water quality in the Wadaslintang Reservoir meets Class III water quality standards. The plankton community structure in the water comprises Chlorophyta (55.64%), Bacillariophyta (41.79%), Pyrrophyta (1.72%), Arthropoda (0.15%), and Rotifera (0.42%). The saprobic coefficient calculation indicates that the Wadaslintang Reservoir has a β-mesosaprobic/oligosaprobic phase, indicating very light to light pollution levels.
