Abstract

In today’s industrial and service environment, operational efficiency and equipment performance play a crucial role in determining organizational success, including in the railway sector, which is essential for supporting passenger mobility and national logistics. PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), particularly in DAOP 5 Purwokerto, continues to enhance service quality by maintaining the reliability and effectiveness of its railway assets. However, existing conditions indicate that operational performance has not yet achieved the expected optimal level, as reflected by Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) values that remain below the ideal benchmark. This study aims to evaluate the operational efficiency of railway assets using the OEE method, while also identifying the root causes of inefficiencies through the application of 5 Why Root Cause Analysis and the Ishikawa Diagram. The research adopts a descriptive analytical approach, combining quantitative data from OEE calculations with qualitative insights obtained through documentation and interviews with operational personnel. The results indicate that inefficiencies are largely influenced by factors related to asset availability, including maintenance scheduling, resource constraints, and operational disruptions. Therefore, this study proposes several improvement strategies focusing on better maintenance management, optimized resource utilization, and more effective operational planning. The findings are expected to provide practical contributions for improving asset effectiveness in DAOP 5 Purwokerto and serve as a reference for further studies in railway operational performance analysis.
