Abstract
Teachers’ Strategies in Teaching English to a Class of Female Students. This study aims to explore teachers’ strategies in teaching English to 12th-grade female students at Satrisatsnupatham School, Yala, Thailand, in the 2025/2026 academic year. It focuses on identifying the types of strategies used, their implementation, and the challenges encountered. The study is grounded in constructivist learning theory, Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), and gender-responsive pedagogy. This research employs a qualitative narrative inquiry design involving English teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that teachers combined student-centered strategies (group discussions, small-group work, role-playing) with teacher-centered approaches (direct instruction and multimedia). These strategies were implemented through supportive and interactive environments, bilingual approaches, and real-life materials to enhance students’ confidence and participation. However, challenges included low speaking confidence, language anxiety, limited exposure to English, and cultural barriers. In conclusion, varied and adaptive strategies are essential to address the needs of female students and to support more effective and gender-responsive English language teaching in similar socio-cultural contexts.
