Abstract

This research examines anger expressions and the translation strategies used in the children’s animated series “The Loud House” Season 1, and evaluates the acceptability of the Indonesian dubbed version. It aims to identify the types of anger expressed by Lincoln Loud, the translation strategies applied, and their level of acceptability. This research draws on Madow’s (1972) theory of anger, Oittinen’s (2018) framework of translation strategies for children’s media, and Nababan’s (2012) model of translation acceptability. A qualitative descriptive method was employed. The findings indicate three types of anger expressions: direct verbal signs (48.63%), thinly veiled signs (43.15%), and indirect signs (8.22%). Conservation is the most frequently used translation strategy (73.29%), followed by substitution (15.07%), tone-down (8.90%), and deletion (2.74%). In terms of acceptability, 75.34% of the translations are categorized as acceptable, 20.55% as less acceptable, and 4.11% as unacceptable. These findings emphasize the importance of selecting appropriate translation strategies to convey anger expressions effectively and maintain acceptability, particularly in the context of children’s media.
