Abstract

Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Jurusan Sastra Inggris, Program Studi Sastra Inggris, Purwokerto. This research concern on the types of jokes in Gintama online comic chapters 411-491 on mangapark.me and mangaku.com with three research questions. The first question is what are the joke types of Gintama online comic Chapters 411-491? It mainly describes the various types of jokes in Gintama online comic. The second research question is what translation techniques are used by the translator on each jokes type of Gintama online comic chapters 411-491? It describes the various translation techniques that exist in each jokes of the comic so it can help researchers to determined readability level. The last research question is how is the readability of the translation on each jokes type of Gintama online comic chapters 411-491?It presents several kinds of readability levels in Gintama online comic which is using the Translation Readability Assessment Instrument. The result of this research shows that there are five types of jokes in Gintama online comic chapters 411-49. They are (1) Physical 30%, (2) Courtship 24%, (3) Self-Deprecating 24, (4) Boasting 12% and (5) Inappropriate Behavior 10%. Then, there are eleven translation techniques than can be found on each jokes of Gintama online comic. They are (1) Literal Translation 44%, (2) Variaton 26%, (3) Adaptation and (4) Particularization 6%, (5) Established Equivalent and (6) Reduction 4%, (7) Linguistic Compression, (8) Linguistic Amplification, (9) Generalization, (10) Discursive Creation, (11) Description 2%. The end of this result shows that there are two readability levels in Gintama online comic, namely (1) High Readable 90%, and (2) Less Readable 10%. Based on the result, the researcher can be found several types of jokes in Gintama online comic translation, each type of jokes used that affect the translation process so it can be concluded how the readability quality of the comics.
