Abstract

This job training report is entitled "Translating Short Stories Entitled “Translating Short Stories Entitled Arti Sebuah Persahabatan, Bunga Anggrek Diana, Ketupat Lebaran, and Hadiah Untuk Mak Salmah in Rialan Krisman’s Children Book “Hadiah Untuk Mak Salmah” from Indonesian into English”. This work practice activity was carried out independently and used direct practice and literature study as the method. The purpose of this work practice is to translate 4 short stories from the book “Hadiah Untuk Mak Salmah”. The reasons of this work practice are to get the target language text in English from Indonesian, and to introduce Indonesian children book especially this book to foreigners. In the process of translating these 4 short stories, there were three steps used, namely analysis, syntactic and revision. There are several obstacles were encountered, such as the difficulty of finding equivalent words, compiling sentences into the target language, and finding the equivalent of religious terms. The solution to solve these problems is looking for equivalent words in printed and online dictionaries, relearning about writing theories, finding and studying religious terms from various sources and also doing consultation with supervisors and proofreaders.
