Abstract

This research is entitled “Students’ Perception toward the Role of American Culture in English Language Learning (A Qualitative Study of English Access Microscholarship Students Site Purwokerto in the Academic Year of 2017/2019)”. The research aimed at finding what were the students perception and the linguistic and social changes experienced by the students in relation with the role of American cultures in their English learning. This research was a qualitative research design. This research was conducted in Access Purwokerto program in Purwokerto, Central Java. The data were collected using questionnaire, interview and documentation. The population was all students of the Access Microscholarship Program site Purwokerto. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. To improve the validity of this qualitative research, triangulation method was used. The results showed that students believed that integrating American cultures to the English language learning is important. They expressed positive attitudes toward the role of American culture. In addition, it helped them develop their ability in understanding, relating and evaluating their own and the other cultures linguistically and socially.
