Abstract

Measuring the Possibility of Podcast in Spotify Application to Improve Students’ Listening Skills on Narrative Texts(Pre- Experimental Research at Grade XI of MA EL-BAYAN Majenang in the Academic Year 2022/2023). Thesis. Purwokerto: Faculty of Humanity, Jenderal Soedirman University. This research aimed to improve students’ listening skills using podcast in spotify application. This research utilized a pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach involving 30 samples of students from MA EL-BAYAN Majenang. The research instruments were pre-tests and post-tets, which consisted of 40 questions based on the application used. The results of this research showed that the students’ listening skill after using podcast in spotify application was improved up to 55.5% from the mean pre-tests score 40.67 to mean post-tests score 63.25. Furthermore, the results of significance values was 0.001 < 0.05, it means that the students’ listening skills using podcasts in Spotify application significantly improved. In other words, Alternative Hypothesis was accepted and Null Hypothesis is rejected. The use of podcasts in Spotify application for students’ listening skills was fairly effective. It can be seen form the gain value calculation. From the data obtained it showed that gain score was 0.48 from mean pre-test score was 40.67 and mean post-test was 63.25, and included in the medium category of gain score was 0.7 ≥ gain ≥ 0.3. Based on the research result above, the use of podcast in spotify application was improve for students’ listening skill on narrative text at grade XI of MA EL- BAYAN Majenang, and the use of podcast in spotify application fairly effective for students’ listening skill at grade XI of MA EL-BAYAN Majenang. The researcher suggests that the English teachers should use podcast in spotify application for teaching-learning process, especially in listening skill. The researcher also suggests that the student should have more practice in listening skill to improve their abilities. Key words: listening skill, narrative text, podcast in spotify application. Mengukur Kemungkinan Podacst di Aplikasi Spotify untuk Meningkatkan Ketrampilan Mendengarkan Siswa pada Teks Naratif (Penelitian Pre-experimental di Kelas XI MA EL-BAYAN Majenang Tahun Pelajaran 2022/2023. Skripsi. Purwokerto: Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa menggunakan podcast di aplikasi spotify. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre- experimental dengan pendekatan kuantitatif yang melibatkan 30 sampel siswa MA EL-BAYAN Majenang. Instrumen penelitian berupa pre-test dan post-tets yang terdiri dari 40 soal berdasarkan aplikasi yang digunakan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan mendengarkan siswa setelah menggunakan podcast dalam aplikasi spotify meningkat hingga 55.5% dari skor rata-rata pre-test 40.67 menjadi skor rata-rata post-test 63.25. Selanjutnya, hasil nilai signifikansi adalah 0.001 < 0.05, artinya keterampilan mendengarkan siswa menggunakan podcast di aplikasi Spotify meningkat secara signifikan. Dengan kata lain, Hipotesis Alternatif diterima dan Hipotesis Null ditolak. Penggunaan podcast pada aplikasi Spotify dalam keterampilan menyimak siswa cukup efektif. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari perhitungan nilai gain. Dari data yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa gain score adalah 0.48 dari skor rata-rata pre-test 40,67 dan skor rata-rata post-test 63,25 dan termasuk dalam kategori sedang gain score yaitu 0.7 ≥ gain ≥ 0.3. . Berdasarkan hasil penelitian di atas, penggunaan podcast pada aplikasi spotify dapat meningkatkan ketrampilan menyimak siswa pada teks naratif di kelas XI MA EL-BAYAN Majenang, dan penggunaan podcast pada aplikasi spotify cukup efektif untuk keterampilan mendengarkan siswa pada kelas XI MA EL-BAYAN Majenang. Selanjutnya, peneliti menyarankan agar guru bahasa Inggris menggunakan podcast di aplikasi spotify untuk proses belajar-mengajar, terutama dalam keterampilan menyimak. Peneliti juga menyarankan agar siswa lebih banyak berlatih dalam keterampilan mendengarkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka.
