Abstract

This final job training report was written based on independent job training that was carried out July 1 - August 30 2022. The purpose of this job training report was to translate the short story "Cheese" by Sushma Joshi from English into Indonesian. This short story was chosen because the content of this short story was interesting, describes the culture of the people of Nepal and there were social condition and similarities between Indonesia and Nepal that was about children’s exploitations. In compiling this job training report, two methods were used, namely, observation and direct practice. These two methods were used in carrying out job training, namely translating short stories from English into Indonesian. In translating the short story, three stage process and eight technique were used. The process stages used were analysis, transfer and reconstruction. Then the techniques used were adaptation, linguistic compression, amplification, borrowing, description, generalization, particularization and literal translation. There were two obstacles found, the first was the difficulty in adjusting the words choices according to the context of the short story and the second the difficulty in finding the right equivalent words in the target text language. The solution were, trying to understand more about the contents and the message and reading several references of short stories translated from English into Indonesian. The processes, techniques and solutions used in job training can help the translation process and produce translation results that are acceptable to the target language and are more natural.
