Abstract

The current research entitled the impact of Covid-19 towards the cooperative ability of giving loan to the customers in Banyumas regency. This research was conducted in 2020 in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. Cooperatives faced significant challenges, including bad debt issues, resulting in changes in the number of borrowing members, loan values, compliance rates, and the value of retained earnings (SHU). The study involved 30 cooperatives in Banyumas Regency as the sample and utilized a quantitative method. The collected data were analyzed using both parametric and non-parametric tests with the SPSS software. Parametric tests, such as paired-sample t-tests, and non-parametric tests, like the Wilcoxon test, were used to compare differences between two time points (pre and post) or different conditions within the same group of subjects, depending on the normality test results of the data. The results of the study showed that cooperative loan values tended to decrease after the Covid-19 pandemic due to limitations in providing loans and restricted cash reserves. Although there was an increase in the number of borrowing members, it was not significant, as members understood the cooperative's declining performance and the cooperative prioritized existing members. There was also a decrease in loan payment compliance and a decline in the distribution of SHU for cooperatives after the pandemic. The implications of this research highlight the need for appropriate financial strategies to reduce non-performing loan risks and maintain cooperative liquidity amid uncertain economic conditions. Cooperatives should innovate by integrating information technology, diversifying products and businesses, expanding partnerships, and pursuing more inclusive development to sustain their future. Support and education for members need to be enhanced to improve financial awareness and capability. The study has limitations, including the limited number of variables and respondents, thus further research with more comprehensive data is necessary for more conclusive findings.
