Abstract
The research entitled Ambrose Pike’s Moral Behavior in The Signature of All Things Novel by Elizabeth Gilbert is aimed to find out the process of Ambrose Pike in doing moral behavior. The researcher uses psychological approach, moral behavior theory by James Rest, and character and characterization theory to analyze the issue of the novel. Furthermore, the analysis is explained by using descriptive qualitative method. There are some steps in analyzing the novel. The first step is reading The Signature of All Things novel to understand the issue in the novel and collect the data of the research. The second step is identifying the data that contain Ambrose Pike’s moral behavior process. The last step is checking the validity of the collected data and eliminating the data to get the most relevant data to analyze. Based on the analysis, the result of the research show that there are two moral behavior that Ambrose Pike has done which are the decision of choosing his passion over his responsibility, and the decision of choosing his belief over his responsibility. The process of those two moral behaviors are chronologically divided into moral sensitivity as his awareness in knowing the moral conflict, moral judgment as his judgment in order to find which option is the most moral, moral motivation as the reason in choosing the option which should be morally right, and moral implementation as the physical action in order to overcome the conflict.
