Abstract
The research entitled “The Impact of Caste System Towards Obi Okonkwo’s Love Story Life in Chinua Achebe’s No Longer At Ease” aims at finding out the impact of caste system towards Obi Okonkwo’s love story life. This research focuses on Obi Okonkwo as the main character and uses sosiology of literature as well as caste system theory. Furthermore, the analysis is arranged using qualitative method. Some steps are taken to analyze this novel. The first step is reading No Longer At Ease novel repeatedly to understand the content and collecting the data that relate with the research’s aim. The second step is identifying texts which consist of the caste system problem that Obi faced in his love story life which are supported by sociology of literature theory and evidences from the novel. The third step is analyzing the data of the impact of caste system in Obi’s love story life by using caste system theory and evidences from the novel. Based on the analysis, there are two oppositions that Obi Okonkwo gets because of his caste system problem in his love story life. He gets the opposition from the society and the parents. Furthermore, this caste system problem gives the impact to Obi’s love. The first impact is he loses his principle to still marry Clara who comes from osu caste. The second impact is he loses Clara as his lover because they have different caste and Obi can not oppose the caste rule of Igbo society.
