Abstract

This final project report was prepared based on independent job training carried out in the period July 29 - August 30, 2022. The purposes of this report was to translate the short movie “Ikuti Balik” written and directed by Agus Isnan as the main character also in this film. This film was included in the most popular short film on YouTube. This movie is a romance genre. Therefore, a translation was carried out into English to convey the message contained in the story. In compiling this practical worked report, there were three methods used, namely literature study, observation and direct practice. These three methods were used in carrying out worked practiced, namely translating short movie into English. There are four stages and nine techniques used in the process of translating the dialogue in the short film "Ikuti Balik". These stages are analyzing the source language text message, switching the text message from the source language to the target language, restructuring the translation results, and evaluating and revising the translation results. Furthermore, the techniques used are adaptation, literal translation, derscription, established equivalence, compensation, subsitution, borrowing, modulation, and variation. In the process of translating the short film "Ikuti Balik" there were several obstacles experienced, among others, such as limited knowledge of vocabulary of the target language and source language, and difficulties in determining the equivalent of words in the target language to be communicative. The solution is to use a dictionary to look up words / vocabulary that are not understood, look for their equivalent in the Source Language and then consult a corrector to determine its communicative equivalent then used in the Target language.
