Abstract

This job training report is entitled " Translating A Webtoon Comic by Dito Satrio Suryonugroho Entitled ‘Jajan Squad’". The job training activity was carried out from July 17 to August 25, 2023. The purpose is to translate the web comic "Jajan Squad" by Dito Satrio Suryonugroho from Indonesian into English, explain the process and techniques in translation, explain the obstacles during translation, and explain the solutions to overcome obstacles in translation. The methods used are observation and literature study. The observation involves observing data collection activities, one of which is reading several comics in the webtoon application. Then, the next is determining web comics used as the translation object. Next, in the literature study method. The activities collected Indonesian transcript data from the web comic "Jajan Squad" as primary data obtained by reading. Further, the dialog is written in table. Then, the Indonesian transcript is translated into English. There are 11 translation technique (out of 18) used to translate the comic. They are adaptation, amplification, borrowing, compensation, description, established equivalence, literal, modulation, reduction, transposition, and variation. During the translation activity, the obstacles are the difficulty to find the right interjection words from the source language to the target language and the difficulty to find a proofreader. In addition, there are some punctuation errors from the source text in Webtoon. These obstacles can be overcome with several solutions, namely, using the internet to find variations of interjections, looking for proofreaders through social media or friends, and rereading web comic scripts from the source text and editing parts of the text that have punctuation errors.
