Abstract

This final report is based on the independent job training that was conducted on 5 February – 5 June 2023. The purposes are to translate National Geographic Magazine Article, to explain the process of translation that has been learned, moreover to find the obstacles and solutions in the translation process. National Geographic Magazine, a popular American monthly magazine published by the National Geographic Society. This magazine was founded in 1888 as a scholarly journal, but is now a popular magazine. Topics of features generally concern science, geography, history, and world culture. Eight translation techniques were used in the translating process of these magazine article. These techniques were adaptation, amplification, borrowing, description, established equivalent, literal translation, particularization, and transposition. The obstacles in the translation process were limited knowledge about the source language and target language, grammatical rules, and understanding the psychology context. The problems were solved by the guidance of supervisors and a proofreader. Laporan Tugas Akhir ini disusun berdasarkan praktik kerja secara mandiri yang dilaksanakan pada 5 Februari 2023 – 5 Juni 2023. Tujuannya adalah untuk menerjemahkan sebuah artikel yang ada di Majalah National Geographic menjelaskan proses penerjemahan yang telah dipelajari sebelumnya, selain itu juga untuk menemukan masalah- masalah dan solusi pada proses penerjemahan Majalah National Geographic, merupakan majalah bulanan Amerika yang diterbitkan oleh National Geographic Society. Majalah ini didirikan pada tahun 1888, tetapi kini sekarang menjadi majalah yang populer. Topik fitur umumnya menyangkut sains, geografi, sejarah, dan budaya dunia. Delapan teknik penerjemahan digunakan dalam proses penerjemahan artikel yang ada di majalah national geographic. Teknik tersebut yaitu adaptasi aplifikasi, peminjaman, deskripsi, estabilis equivalen, penerjemahan harfiah, partikularisasi, transposisi. Kendala dalam proses penerjemahan yaitu keterbatasan pengetahuan mengenai bahasa sumber dan Bahasa sasaran, struktur bahasa dan pemahaman terkait psikologi. Masalah yang dialami dapat diatasi dengan bimbingan dari dosen- dosen pembimbing dan proofreader.
