Abstract

This job training report is entitled " Translating Wattpad Short Story entitled Sunrise Dream by Ellina Exsli from Indonesian into English". The job training activity was carried out from June 19 to August 25, 2023. The purpose is to translate the short story entitled Sunrise Dream by Ellina Exsli from Indonesian into English, to explain the process and techniques in translation, to explain the obstacles during translation, and to explain the solutions to overcome obstacles in translation. The methods used are observation, literature study, and hands on practice. The observation involves observing data collection activities, one of which was reading several short stories in Wattpad application. Then, the next is determining short story used as the translation object. Next, in the literature study method. The activities collected Indonesian transcript data from the short story entitled Sunrise Dream as primary data obtained by reading. Moreover, what was done in the hands on practice is that nine translation techniques were used Amplification, Compensation, Modulation, Reduction, Transposition, Variation, Adaptation, Established Equivalence, and Literal Translation. The translation process that followed were Analysis, Transfer, and Restructuring. The obstacles that were found in the job training activity were about finding the right onomatopoeias and difficulty in understanding translation techniques. However, the obstacles could be overcome with several solutions, including using adaptation techniques, reading the examples of translation techniques in various sources and discussing with friends to get a more detail understanding of translation techniques.
