Abstract

This job training report is entitled “Translating A Short Movie Entitled "Gaslighting" by Qbit Films From English to Indonesian”. It was carried out in September 2023 and ended in October 2023. The short movie "Gaslighting" was chosen because it has an interesting concept and the message is important. The purposes of carrying out this job training were translating the short movie, describing the translation process and the difficulties faced during the process of translating, and finding solutions for the translation process. There are three stages carried out in the translation process, namely analysis, transfer and restructuring. The analysis stage is carried out by reading the entire transcript of the short movie "Gaslighting". The transfer stage is done in the mind to transfer from SL text to TL text. The restructuring stage is the stage of rewriting the translation results that have been evaluated and revised. There were twelve translation techniques theory from Molina and Albir that were used in the translation process. These techniques were adaptation, amplification, borrowing, compensation, common equivalents, generalization, linguistic amplification, literal translation, modulation, reduction, transposition and variation. The methods used in making this work practice report are literature study and hands on practice. Several obstacles were faced in the translating process. They were difficulty in finding equivalent words in the target language to convey the message perfectly and difficulty in using the "Aegisub" application to insert subtitles into short movie. These obstacles were overcome by watching the short movie very carefully to understand the context to help finding the right terms to translate, studying and searching for the equivalent words in the target language and then consulting with the supervisors to help correcting the translation result, and learning about “Aegisub” application on the internet and trying the features that are available to make the subtitling process much easier.
