Abstract

This research discusses the translation technique and the level of translation accuracy in one of Ling's background stories in the Mobile Legends game: Bang Bang, with two research questions. The first research question explores the translation techniques used in Ling's backstory. It explains the methods employed in translating the research materials. The second research question evaluates the accuracy level of the translation of Ling's background story. This stage explains how accurately the story is translated from the source language to the target language. Different levels of accuracy in Ling's background story are presented using the Translation Quality Assessment Instrument. The result shows that there are 8 translation techniques applied in Ling's background story in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. They are (1) Literal 53%, (2) Borrowing 33%, (3) Equivalence 4%, (4) Transposition 4%, (5) Adaptation 1%, (6) Reduction 1%, (7) Calque 1%, (8) Amplification 1%. The research of translation techniques shows various techniques with Literal and Borrowing being the most prominent. Furthermore, the study assesses the translation accuracy, revealing three levels: Accurate (84%), Less Accurate (14%), and Inaccurate (2%). The assessment of translation accuracy reveals that the majority of translations are deemed accurate, highlighting the effectiveness of the translation process in capturing the essence of the original narrative. However, there remains a notable portion categorized as less accurate or inaccurate. Based on the results of the study, the researcher can find out which techniques used in Ling's background story are different and can affect the translation process so that it can be concluded how the level of translation accuracy from the source language to the target language in the game.
