Abstract
International students are generally referred as people who study outside their country. As the students who study across the country, international students use a language that is acceptable and understood by many people in academic field, that is English. The importance of English as a global language extends beyond international communication to being an important skill tested for proficiency, especially in Indonesia across various fields including academics. The aims of this research are: (1) To find out if there is a correlation between English language proficiency and academic achievement of undergraduate international students in Universitas Jenderal Soedirman; (2) To discover the correlation between English language proficiency and academic achievement of undergraduate international students in Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. This research utilized a quantitative approach with a correlational research design involving 13 samples of undergraduate international students in Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. The research instruments are documentation and test. The research results showed that there was a correlation between English language proficiency and academic achievement. The Significant value (0.042) and Correlation Coefficient value (0.569) defined there was a moderate positive correlation of the two variables. Where English proficiency increases, the academic achievement tended to increases. The researcher suggests that future researchers can explore more about the results of this correlation not only in terms of their correlation but more deeply on the causal factors of the correlational by manipulating the independent variable(s) using the experimental design of English language proficiency and academic achievement.
