Rosdiana Puspita Sari, S.S., M.A. SUMMARY This job training report is entitled “Translating a Short Film Entitled ‘Jada’ by Doug Roland From English into Indonesian”. The purpose of this job training report is to translate a short movie by Doug Roland from English (SL) into Indonesian (TL). A short movie is an audio-visual work of art, having a complex storyline with duration of less 50 minutes. ‘Jada’ is an English short movie that tells the story of a 7-year-old girl who struggles alone to survive. The short film has over 25 million views on YouTube. However, because there are no subtitles in Indonesian, the writer is interested in translating the short movie into Indonesian so that it could be enjoyed by Indonesian audiences. In the process of translating the short movie ‘Jada’, there are several obstacles, such as the lack of language mastery, both in the source language and target language, the difficulty in determining the correct equivalent in the target language, and the difficulty in using the ‘eagisub’ application to equate dialog with subtitles. In overcoming the obstacles faced, there are several solutions that can be taken, namely using a dictionary to find terms that are difficult to understand, undertake guidance with supervisors as translation experts, and taking notes on the dialogue between characters and the time. In addition, during the translation process, the writer used several translation techniques, such as amplification, reduction, transposition, description, literal, and generalization.
